Developing Foal's horse human connection

This time of year is full of nervous excitement for us at Ricinda Ranch as we watch the babies bellies growing. By now we can see the bubs bouncing around in their dams’s tummies. I check each day  to make sure that there are no signs of premature foaling and that things are progressing well. I love to spend this time just standing beside my girls stroking their tummies and chatting away to the unborn foal. I think connecting with them before they are born is so important and really strengthens the horse – heart- human bond. My foals are all born with a strong sense of ‘knowing me’ when they arrive as the relationship between us begins forming really from the moment they are first conceived. You won’t see me putting halters on my babies until much later in their development as the foundation to our connection isn’t me forcing my human ways onto them. Its formed by me connecting to them in their own language, as much as my limited human ability allows. When I talk about language I’m not just talking about the spoken word. It’s also about touch, body language, energy, thoughts, intention, spirit and so so much more. It might sound a bit odd to some of you however Im sure so many of you will resonate with this.
